Star Wars has handed you a lightsaber, a blaster, and a starship. For thirty years, one thing has been notably absent from the franchise: a game that asks you to stop being the weapon and start thinking like the general.
Star Wars Zero Company launches August 27, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It is a turn-based tactics game set during the twilight of the Clone Wars, developed by Bit Reactor in partnership with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games.
Why This Matters More Than Another Action Game
Star Wars has had action games, action-RPGs, real-time strategy games, and flight simulators. What it has rarely had is a game that asks you to manage positioning, spend action points carefully, and accept that your Jedi is a tool you deploy rather than the identity you wear.
The protagonist is Hawks, a former Republic officer. Not a Force-sensitive. Not a clone. A human commander who leads a squad that happens to include a Jedi padawan alongside a Clone Trooper, a Mandalorian, and others. The structural choice is unusual for the franchise and deliberate in what it signals: the power fantasy in Zero Company is competence, not the Force.
For anyone who has spent hours in XCOM 2 sending soldiers into overwatch or nursing a sharpshooter through a campaign without a scratch, the feel of the game should land immediately. The difference is that instead of generic operatives, your squad pulls from one of the most recognizable fictional settings in cinema history.
